Noah Tan

BA International Relations, 2025

Noah has taken a bit of Mandarin at Stanford, but it will be a great opportunity to gain fluency in and outside the classroom through full immersion in the language. Noah would like to concentrate his studies on international security and economic statecraft, particularly as it pertains to international trade, export controls, tech stack development, which will help to inform him on my broader theory of change—how to promote tech diplomacy and economic normalization in an era of hegemonic instability. Noah hopes to explore the country’s regional hubs for culture, technology, politics, and manufacturing to get a boots-on-the-ground perspective on the effects of key performance indices put out by the central government. Finally, Noah would like to form a community of people who will help him be more spontaneous: trying new foods, going to new places outside of the walls of Schwarzman College, and forming personal connections with people from all over the world. These networks, lived experiences, and learning opportunities will hopefully give him a cosmopolitan skillset as he works towards a J.D. from Harvard Law School (2027-2030) and pursue a career in international trade law.
