Ellison Graduate Scholars Program

3-4 years of study/research at University of Oxford leading to DPhil (PhD).

Ellison Applicants will be asked to provide evidence that they meet the entry requirements of their chosen DPhil (PhD) course at the University of Oxford. These entry requirements will likely include minimum undergraduate degree outcomes and English language requirements.

About the Ellison Graduate Scholars Program

Graduate Ellison Scholarships will fund DPhil (PhD) study at the University of Oxford. The graduate Scholars apply primarily to work on a specific EIT PhD project (science and engineering for humanity - humane endeavours). Through innovation, scholars work shoulder-to-shoulder with world leading experts to solve real-world problems through technology as part of a fully-funded doctoral degree at the University of Oxford.

Amount Awarded

The program fully funds course fees for graduate study at the University of Oxford, and includes a generous stipend to cover all living expenses, plus the equivalent of paid internships.

Application Process

3-4 years at University of Oxford leading to DPhil (PhD)

Through the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT), the Ellison Scholars program will fully fund selected students’ study at the University of Oxford, where they will collaborate with other Scholars and the EIT Faculty of Fellows on projects important to humanity. The focus is on Education, Innovation, and Solving Global Problems.

Graduate Ellison Scholars’ doctoral research will focus on an EIT project. Applicants must therefore demonstrate how well their research interests and choice of DPhil (PhD) course align with an ongoing EIT project.

Award criteria

Applicants will need to show that they are aligned and committed to EIT’s vision by demonstrating a deep understanding of global problems in at least one of EIT’s four humane endeavours. 

In addition, applicants should demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Advanced technology-related skills
  • A proven track record in innovating to solve problems
  • Outstanding aptitude in a subject that relates to one of EIT’s humane endeavours or projects

  • NB: Applications may remain open beyond this deadline if places are still available.

April 2026 - EIT Graduate Scholars are announced.

October 2026 - Ellison Scholars begin their studies at the University of Oxford
