About the Fulbright-National Geographic Enhancement Award
The Fulbright-National Geographic Enhancement Award, a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, provides opportunities for selected Fulbright US Student Study/Research grantees to participate in an academic year of storytelling on a globally significant theme. This Fellowship is made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society.
It is an enhancement to Fulbright research or arts project. Fulbright-National Geographic Fellows must be selected for a Fulbright Study/Research Grant by the eligible host country and meet criteria.
Awardees create multimedia stories on globally significant social or environmental topics and share their stories through National Geographic’s platforms, using a variety of digital storytelling tools, including text, photography, video, audio, graphic illustrations, and/or social media. Recipients receive benefits (for travel, stipend, health etc.) and instruction in storytelling techniques (effective blog writing, video production, and photography) and mentorship from National Geographic staff throughout the program. Up to five awards are granted each year.
Amount Awarded
Varies; Travel, living stipend, health benefits, professional stipend, mentorship, digital storytelling instruction
