Andrew Nelson

Andrew Nelson is a PhD Candidate in the Japanese Linguistics track of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. As a Fulbright-Hays DDRA grantee, he will access rare linguistics journals, monographs and lectures on the history and nature of language, as well as grammars and dictionaries, all published in Japan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With these resources, held at the National Diet Library, the Hitotsubashi University Library, and the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics, he will examine how Japanese scholars synthesized and contributed to global linguistic thought.
