Kyle Becerra

Undergraduate

Juan Carlos Becerra Jr., known by his childhood nickname, Kyle, was born and raised in California's San Fernando Valley. Kyle is majoring in Political Science and transferred to Stanford from his local community college as a Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholar. At Stanford, he served on the Undergraduate Senate and led pioneering efforts for the recovery community, resulting in him earning the James W. Lyons Award for Service. Kyle is writing an honors thesis on the ethics of adhering to U.S. Supreme Court decisions and is passionate about political philosophy and democratic theory. Kyle conducted research at Northwestern University on police violence in America and with the National Science Foundation on immigration detention centers, and has influenced immigration policy as an intern for the United States Senate. Motivated by his personal experience growing up as the son of immigrant workers, he plans to serve in the United States Congress to strengthen democracy by creating policy that better reflects democratic values. At Schwarzman College, Kyle plans to study Chinese history, philosophy, and political institutions to gain a deeper understanding of China and its global motivations, with the goal of one day fostering more positive relations between China and the United States.
