Stanford Application Timeline for 2024

Our Office of Global Scholarships is happy to assist Stanford applicants through the Rhodes and Marshall application process. Here are some important steps for you to follow:

Winter Quarter:

  • Carefully review information on the scholarship websites as well as the information we will send you through out the application process
  • Complete a Pre-Advising Form 
  • Attend an initial meeting with a scholarship advisor

Spring Quarter:

  • Start writing (Rhodes applicants cannot receive feedback on the personal statement ) 
  • Begin to identify and contact references. Go to office hours offered by faculty who you will ask for reference letters, share your academic plans and get advice
  • Only three letters are required for the campus process, but you should alert additional references that letters will be needed by the beginning of October
  • Marshall: requires three letters: one primary/overview, one general academic, one leadership 
  • Rhodes: requires five-eight letters: at least four should be from faculty who have taught you/supervised research; the Canadian Rhodes requires exactly six
  • Begin identifying academic programs of interest
  • Attend sessions offered by the Office of Global Scholarships (OGS) 
    • How to Prepare for a Scholarship Interview with Matt Abrahams: Monday, April 29th from 4:30-5:30pm PT - Over Zoom 
    • Conversations with Recent Rhodes & Marshall Alumni: Tuesday, May 21st from 4:30-5:30pm in person  
    • Conversations about Campus Interviews with Campus Panelists: Thursday, May 23rd from 4:30-5:30pm in person 
  • National applications will be available in late spring (Marshall), and June (Rhodes). 
  • Rhodes competitions in other countries have different deadlines and requirements than those listed here, check them individually. Although only the US, Canadian, and Global Rhodes require Stanford’s endorsement. The campus deadline for applicants for the Global Rhodes is in late spring.

Summer Quarter:

Deadlines:

  • The deadline for confirming that you will be applying for these scholarships is 5 PM (PST), July 1, 2024. No exceptions!
  • The Rhodes and Marshall Stanford Campus Deadline is 5 PM (PST) August 6, 2024. No exceptions. This is to ensure all steps for endorsement are completed in time.

Fall Quarter:

  • Campus Interviews for Rhodes and Marshall endorsements will be held in the first two weeks of September.
  • Endorsement decision will be made by September (date TBA)
  • All final applications, letters of recommendation and transcripts must be submitted by the following deadlines:

National deadline for Marshall applications: September (date TBA)
National deadline for U.S. Rhodes applications: October (date TBA)
Canadian Rhodes application deadline: September (date TBA)
